Purcell & Elmslie Poll
Every building, every design has fans. An architect who worked for Purcell once told me that if you didn't like being in a house, you probably wouldn't like the person for whom it was conceived. Of course, it is also kind of silly to mix apples and oranges in the choice of different types of houses. There are, for example, small open plan dwellings, more complex or specialized compositions, and the great estate houses that included landscaping and service buildings. However and nonetheless, just for fun and mostly because the service is free so I don't have to code things on this end, here are a series of polls where you can cast your vote for what comes most to mind. Perhaps the best approach to this is to go with the first feeling that arises, such that is often the most honest and immediate response to the creativity of the design.

Once you vote, or ask to see the existing tallies without voting, you will be forwarded off Organica as part of Free polls from Pollhost.com so the links below open a separate browser window to keep this page available. You can vote only once on each poll. Take as few or as many polls as you like. It's all for fun and curiosity, with perhaps a little insight. These polls are designed to last one year. Of course, perhaps no one at all will cast a ballot!

  1. What is your favorite P&E residence?
  2. What is your favorite P&E bank?
  3. If you could meet either Purcell or Elmslie, which man would you choose?
  4. Which commercial interior do you think was the best?
  5. What is your favorite unbuilt project?
  6. Which is your favorite P&E brochure?
  7. If you could visit one of the following demolished P&E buildings, which would you choose?
  8. Are you interested in the spiritual aspects of P&E's design philosophy?
  9. Do you think P&E were right to turn down Frank Lloyd Wright when he offered to sell his practice to them?
  10. Do you think it is morally wrong of owners to take decorative fixtures with them when they sell a P&E property?
