Portrait of William Gray Purcell
Catherine Garns Gray, ca. 1882
Pastel on paper

The most compelling aspect to this portrait rendered by a doting grandmother is the sense of hopefulness and enthusiasm for life already shining in the eyes of a future architect.  The original lacks the mar seen in this image, which is taken from a scan of an old 35 mm slide.
